Museums are permanent establishments that acquire, preserve, research, and display pieces of art for study, educational and entertainment purposes. Their purpose is to raise awareness about the development of societies and cultural exchanges.
They play a relevant social role by disseminating knowledge on a large scale, promoting cultural diversity, creativity and the transmission of tradition from one generation to another. Currently it is possible for them to expand and achieve greater reach, innovating their methodologies, creating strategies and techniques that can be implemented through technology and digital media.
In this context and at the initiative of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), since 1977, International Museum Day is celebrated on May 18, the purpose of the commemoration is to motivate the public to visit them, as well as to raise awareness about the role that play in the cultural exchange and social development of countries. This year will be remembered under the motto "Museums, sustainability and well-being".

Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science: offers an exciting journey through animal life and science through an aquarium and a planetarium.
Vizcaya Museum & Gardens: It is the largest mansion in Florida built in 1916. Its luxurious rooms present a mixture of styles ranging from Renaissance to Neoclassical.
City of Miami Black Police Precinct & Courthouse Museum: It is a rare and very little known museum in Miami. It is the only known structure in the United States that functioned as an independent police station and municipal courthouse for black police officers.
Miami Institute of Contemporary Art: It has a unique environment where works of modern and contemporary art are exhibited. It is located in the Miami Design District.
